Lover of all things fashion, meet Katie Albert. She’s currently studying fashion textile brand management and marketing at NC State and soaks up every minute of it. She told #TeamCurtsy, “I am lucky that NC State has such an amazing program in place to let me do what I love each day.” She’s overly excited about her plans next summer — she will be interning at Kohl’s headquarters near Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a Product Management Intern.
Curtsy: What does fashion mean to you?
KA: I view fashion as a way to express yourself. If you are first meeting someone, how you are dressed can be part of that person’s first impression of you. I think the way I dress reflects often reflects my personality, and I think it’s amazing how clothes can speak for themselves in that way.
Curtsy: How do you describe your personal style?
KA: My style changes based on my mood most of the time. Black is always my go to— it looks good with everything. If I had to pick I would say my style is a mix of boho, street chic. One day I could wear something super edgy (probably because I actually had time to get ready) and the next day I could be in adidas, leggings and a t-shirt. Its so hard to pick just one style.
I feel like my style can be different daily, so over the years it has definitely morphed. In sixth grade I literally only wore Ralph Lauren. Polo’s were for some reason my go-to.
In my later middle school years I got into more of the skater look. In high school I would dress up for class everyday, even wearing heels sometimes. Now I just like to mix it up.
Curtsy: Where do you go to for fashion inspiration?
SK: Australian fashion! I love it — everything they wear is so unique, yet simplistic at the same time. Sabo skirt is my favorite. I think I would wear anything they make probably.
Curtsy: Who are your favorite designers, and why do you admire them?
KA: Free People each garment they make is unique. Free People is such a recognizable brand, and that’s something I really admire.
I can walk down the street and know something is Free People simply because of its embellishments and how it’s made.
My second favorite is probably Marc Jacobs. I like how daring he is with his designs and advertisements. Everything is so bold and out there.
