Drop Everything And Listen If You Haven’t Heard These ATL Ladies Sing

Meet Ella Collier & Caroline Culver: two girls who are painting the A with their keen sense of style and their vibrant music. For these two Atlanta natives, it wasn’t the fact that they were neighbors that brought them together, or even that they went to the same elementary school; but it was their undying passion for singing and songwriting. They started creating music in the same studio, both taking voice and guitar lessons, until eventually their worlds collided.

We kind of knew each other,” Ella says, “Then, Caroline’s single, ‘Just This Time’, came out and I stalked her on Instagram, found her, messaged her on Twitter… I was like ‘I love this song, we have to meet’. I knew all the words before I met her.”

The girls wound up meeting at Octane Coffee and spent hours upon hours talking. With sparks flying, Ella invited Caroline to be in one of her shows. They hit it off so well that they started hanging out more often and  writing together. They wrote their first song together called ‘Drunk Love Song’. Now, they hang out all of the time- not only as musicians, but as really good friends.

It’s cool to have someone that has the same perspective on living in Atlanta, but also music and having the same passion. Nobody, I feel like has the same outlook on music that Ella does. It’s kind of brought us together in different ways. -Caroline

Caroline Culver

Caroline has been writing songs since she was 8. She started off with a notebook and pencil and would write down everything that came to her mind. She began taking piano lessons, which led into guitar lessons, and then started putting lyrics to her music.

I can’t believe the music video for ‘JUST THIS TIME’ is coming so soon 🌙 stay tuned… #cleobella #gypsyandmagnolia

I really started to get into it when I was 13, I was like, ‘Mom, I want to perform and show the world’. -Caroline

She released her first EP her junior year in high school. It contained five original songs and are available on iTunes and Spotify. Caroline has most recently been working on dropping three more new singles, including a music video for ‘Hot Tea’, a live music video coming out in September called, “Gypsy”, and her biggest single, ‘Wrap Me Up’, that will debut in December. You can catch her live in person at Java Monkey in Decatur on July 22.

Ella Collier

Ella was always a super big talker when she was younger and very ‘extravagant’. She started off doing musical theater when she was 8, then started singing and taking guitar lessons at Jan Smith Studios.

I saw Taylor Swift on the Ellen Show. She was on there with Zac Efron playing “Pumped Up Kicks” and I was like, ‘I want to make music like that- the way she plays guitar is so cool.’ So I wrote my first song and performed it at my 6th grade talent show, and now I perform all around Atlanta.” -Ella

Ella has a busy August ahead of her as she is headlining at Eddie’s Attic on August 20th in Decatur, and is filming a music video in Nashville for her new single, ‘That Would Make Me You’ that will be coming out in August as well.

You can catch these ladies frequenting brunch at Buttermilk Kitchen, Corso Coffee, or West Egg Cafe. Catch a sweat with them at Flywheel or Pure Barre; or sight them shopping around at Planet Blue, Free People, or in the shops of Buckhead.

Curtsy: What advice can you give to girls who aren’t from here?

Find the local places- don’t emphasize too much on the typical touristy places. We love Ponce City Market or Krog Street. There’s also these new cool communities around the West Side like this area called Upbeet. We love taking nice walks in Piedmont Park or on the beltline.” -Ella & Caroline
