Brooke Meitzler is the definition of #SLAY.
If you know Brooke well you know that she will do literally ANYTHING. In the interview below, we talk about where this fearlessness comes from, her biggest influences and why she’s excited to join Curtsy.
Q: Brooke, you seem to have no fear. Have you always been like that?!
If you worry about what others think of you, you’re going to go through life with the lamest stories. I live my life with as little fear as possible.
I’m not saying I’m going to get in a squirrel suit and jump off the top of the Space Needle (yet) but I get a rush of adrenaline when I’m doing something out of the norm.
Weird fact: I’ve always been a climber. I used to climb door frames, the trees in my front yard. In college I would hang out on the roof at our sorority house for fun.
(Sorry, Ms. Martha, I was the one who installed the pulley on the side of the Tri Delt house to get all of the lawn furniture up there.)
I’m aware I do not have 9 lives, but everyone needs a thrill in their life from time to time. Caring about what others think of you is a waste of energy.
I’m also my biggest competitor, so if someone tells me to do something, I HAVE to do it. This is not an exaggeration.
My friends understand this to the nth degree. They never tempt me to do anything unless I actually should because I will go every mile to make it happen.
When I was little, I would always dress myself. My parents wanted me to express myself since I was just a few years old.
My parents always taught me to be true to myself and to think for myself. If I ever forgot this, my mom would say in her cajun accent, “Buh-rook, we aren’t everyone else. We’re the Meitzlers and we’re not going to do wut everyone else is dooo-in’.”
Q: What excited you about joining #TeamCurtsy?
I’ve watched Curtsy grow up since day one at Ole Miss, and it excites me to no end to be on board…
My second day on board, we had a brainstorming session and the next day, we were making those ideas happen. I didn’t even have to go through 11 people for approval. WHAT?
My first week here has already been challenging and exhilarating. When there’s a problem, we fix it.
Some of my friends think I’m crazy because I worked hard for my chemical engineering degree, but I love the feeling of taking risks and sticking to what I believe in & that’s Curtsy.
Finding what works and what doesn’t is going to be stressful, but that’s the beauty of it. It’ll make a great story in the end no matter the outcome.
Q: Who are your biggest influences, and why?
Being the baby girl with two older brothers, I grew up at the ball field. Sports were always a common topic of conversation at our home…
Because of that, I love reading biographies of athletes who have overcome hardships throughout their lives. Two of my favorites were Michael Phelps and Josh Hamilton.
They taught me that nothing is easy, and you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to. I don’t really have a typical “pioneer woman influencer” that I always quote or am obsessed with.
I’m always eager to learn people’s stories. I don’t think you have to be a famous politician or actor to have a story that can change lives.
My family and friends that have gone through tough life experiences and kept pushing through without any complaints motivate me to be a stronger person.
Another book that has inspired me is “How to Be a Badass.” I consider it my “go to guide” for my day to day activities.
I think you’ve mastered “badass,” Brooke! We’re so excited to have you here at Curtsy.
Welcome to the team.
