Growing up in New York City, Sara Kern loves nothing more than biking along the Hudson River, walking along the High Line, and spending time with her two younger brothers when she’s home. She currently lives in Los Angeles while attending the University of Southern California. Sara packed her bags and brought her New York fashion to California, and we’re #swooned.
I don’t like to follow trends or fads because I don’t like to wear what everyone else is wearing. Instead, I like to start with a few basics like a great fitting pair of jeans or classic booties and pair them with more interesting pieces I find.
I’ve become more comfortable in my skin over the years, which has enabled me to take more fashion risks than I would have in the past and purchase more unique pieces that I couldn’t see others or my younger self wearing. I’ve also learned which types of clothes flatter my body best, so now I know how to buy clothes that fit better and make me look better.
I’m a huge believer in buying the same article of clothing in multiple colors if the piece truly fits well and looks amazing! You can always switch up your look and pair the article of clothing with different pieces, so no one will be able to tell you’ve been wearing the same piece all week in multiple colors.
If it fits and looks good, you’re better off buying a few just in case the style gets discontinued, and you can no longer find that perfect T or comfortable sweater.
Curtsy: What are some of your current fashion obsessions?
SK: Right now I’m looking for the perfect pair of affordable, casual sneakers— preferably a suede pair. I’m also into two-piece sets and hoping to purchase one casual, summery set, and one more elegant, dressed up set to wear out at night.
I also like Evelyne Chetrite, founder of Sandro Paris and her son Ilan Chetrite because the Sandro line reflects an eclectic style, and all the designs are colorful and unique. Additionally, I admire Rachel Zoe’s fashion sense because it’s simple, classic, fun, and timeless.
